Glenpool's whole existence traces back to one moment: on November 22, 1905, wildcatters Robert Galbreath Jr. and Frank Chesley struck oil on land owned by Creek citizen Ida E. Glenn, discovering the Glenn Pool field. The gusher that followed is often credited with making Tulsa "the Oil Capital of the World," and the field went on to produce over 340 million barrels of oil. The town (renamed from "Glenn Pool" to "Glenpool" in 1924) still holds an annual "Black Gold Days" celebration honoring that history. Today Glenpool is a growing Tulsa-metro suburb of nearly 13,700 residents, 15 miles south of downtown Tulsa on Route 75 — its population grew almost 30% between the 2010 and 2020 census.
